You’re engaged! You and your partner agreed it’s time to tie the knot. However, what are you supposed to do now? Should you go shouting the news from the rooftops, or start planning the wedding now? No need to stress, you’ve come to the right place. Below are some things to do/consider doing after getting engaged.
Take some time to process
You just got engaged so take some time to let yourself realize that. You may have to repeat it to yourself over and over for your brain to finally put it together. Then spend some time with your fiance! It’s a special thing to be engaged, and you guys should probably figure some things out together anyways. It’s easy to say you’re engaged, but to go somewhere with it is completely different.
Inform close friends and family
The most important people in your life will probably appreciate hearing about your engagement personally. If they have an important role in your life then they should probably hear about the big events in it. I would also suggest not going around telling everyone right away. Many married women who did that, got so many congratulations and whatnot that they could barely spend some quality time with their fiance. That’s why it’s best to tell your close friends and family first, and then later make a more public announcement.
Get ring resized and insured
Sometimes your engagement ring might keep slipping off, or maybe it’s stuck on just a tad bit too tight. Meaning, it’s a good idea to go get it resized so it can fit your finger just right. It also may be good to get the ring insured. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!
Take Engagement Photos
Photos are a great way to hold on to many memories. They also are fun to look back on in years to come. That being said, getting some engagement photos taken is a bomb idea! There are many different ways you can do it too. Find a great location, wear some amazing outfits, and maybe even use props (hint: the ring!). Then just find a photographer to take pictures for an hour or two.
Have an engagement party
Having a party to celebrate this new chapter in your life is a fabulous idea! You and your partners, friends, and family can all get together and share the happiness of your engagement as a whole.
Don’t get all crazy with wedding details
As tempting as it is to get right into planning, it’s not a great idea. Take time to figure out all the details, so then you can make your wedding as perfect as possible. Good things take time, and your wedding should be a good thing. A great way to start planning your wedding is to look at magazines, create a Pinterest board, or look for inspiration from someone who has been married before.
Enjoy It!
Being engaged is something special because it’s more than just dating but you also have not fully committed yet. It’s a great time to do some soul searching and to find things out about your relationship. Enjoy the time of being able to say, “I’m engaged”, or “This is my fiance”. It’s a great feeling to have someone who loves you so much that they want to be with you for the rest of eternity.
