Preparing your groom for your engagement session
Ok brides….your wedding date is set, you have selected your photographer, now it is time for your engagement session. These photos are a big deal to you. To most grooms, not so much. Although I do have to say I have worked with a few grooms who valued the photography portion more highly than the brides themselves. They were SO fun to work with! : ) It even got me a trip to the Bahamas, but that is a story for another day. : )
Most brides worry that their future husband is going to be grumpy and uncooperative on the day of the session. They worry that he won’t have fun, and you won’t get the pictures that you are wanting, but I have great news for you! The biggest compliment I get besides the quality of my photos is how comfortable I make people feel in front of the camera. Both of you will be thoroughly enjoying your session by the time we wrap up. It is like a romantic and fun date and I suggest making it that way. You are all dressed up…make it even more special by going to dinner before or after.
Your engagement will be fun and relaxed. As you prepare for your session, there are a few thing you can do to help your groom know what to expect.
# 1 – I highly recommend sitting down together with a cup of coffee or your favorite alcoholic beverage and show him 2 to 3 of your favorite engagement sessions that I have photographed. Just look under the engagements tab in my blog at https://parkyspics.com/category/engagement/ Spend time together scrolling through a few blog posts, so he can see what the expectations will be and what the experience looks like.
# 2-Allow for plenty of time to get to your shoot. There is nothing worse than when a couple shows up late and they have been arguing in the car. That is the best way to put your groom in a bad mood.
#3- Feed him. It is hard to enjoy yourself when you are hungry.
# 4- If he is really nervous, or resistant, take him for a drink or two before hand. I once had a couple do this and I don’t know if I had laughed so hard ever since. Another option is to bring a drink or two to the session. I have had couples incorporate that into their session.
#5- Have patience. Don’t assume that he is not going to have a good time. You will both enjoy your session and have some amazing memories to show for it!
