Everything You Need to Know About Eloping along the avenue of the giants  Humboldt Redwoods State Park

If you've dreamed of saying your vows beneath towering ancient redwoods, Avenue of the Giants is one of the most breathtaking places in California to elope.

Running through Humboldt Redwoods State Park, this scenic 32-mile drive winds through the largest remaining old-growth redwood forest in the world. The combination of massive trees, fern-covered trails, quiet groves, and easy accessibility makes it one of Northern California's most iconic elopement destinations.

You can elope in a private ceremony surrounded by a cathedral of redwood trees. After your ceremony is complete, I can show you what else the famous Humboldt County has to offer. Looking for an adventure of a lifetime? Humboldt County is one of the most beautiful places on earth. My house is 5 minutes from Humboldt Redwoods State Park and the famous Avenue of the Giants. It’s a quick trip to the beautiful mountain ranges of the Lost Coast and beyond. There are also amazing stretches of rugged beaches full of large, powerful rocks that have stood the test of time- just like in the movie, The Goonies!

We won't be far from the famous black sands beach of Shelter Cove; the tiny sea-side home of Northern California’s most remote coastline. No overcrowded beaches here! There is nothing like a black sand beach and a beautiful sunset to make a wedding dress pop! To the north are more majestic redwood trees, as well as the popular beaches of Trinidad State Beach, Moonstone Beach, Patrick’s Point, and Wedding Rock. There is no shortage of amazing hikes and locations! If you are looking for someone who can guide you every step of the way in your elopement process, who knows the ins and outs of the redwood forests, who loves shooting wedding days that are all about the couple and their genuine love for each other... then you have come to the right place! What are you waiting for? Complete the contact form at the bottom of this page and lets get to planning your ultimate adventure elopement! I will be your trusty tour guide for the adventure of your lifetime! From the redwoods to the sea! Best of all? You will have some pretty epic photos to show for it.

Why Couples Love Avenue of the Giants

Towering old-growth redwoods
Easy access from Highway 101
Beautiful year-round scenery
Privacy compared to many national park locations
Incredible photography opportunities
Multiple ceremony location options

One of my favorite things about Avenue of the Giants is that every section feels a little different. Some groves are dark and moody, while others are bright and open with stunning shafts of light filtering through the trees.

Flowing dresses photograph beautifully among the giant trees.
Simple dresses also look good.

A dress that you can move easily in is your best option.

Tips

Local Tips You Won't Find on Google

Overcast days often create the most beautiful Redwood photos.

Midday is not always bad in the Redwoods because the forest naturally diffuses harsh sunlight.

Some groves can be crowded while others remain surprisingly quiet.

The best locations often aren't the most famous ones.
Weather can vary dramatically between the coast and the forest.

As someone who lives and photographs here regularly, I help couples choose locations based on lighting, season, privacy, accessibility, and the overall experience they're hoping to create.

Why Hire a Local Avenue of the Giants Photographer?

Anyone can find a location on Google.

A local photographer knows:

Which groves photograph best at different times of day
Which areas are busiest
Hidden spots most visitors never see
Seasonal changes
Backup plans for weather

When you're planning an elopement from out of town, local knowledge can make the entire experience smoother and far less stressful.

Make Your Avenue of the Giants Elopement an Adventure

One of the best things about eloping in Humboldt County is that your day doesn't have to begin and end in the Redwoods. Within a short drive, you can combine your ceremony with rugged coastlines, scenic rivers, mountain views, and activities that reflect who you are as a couple.

Whether you're dreaming of a quiet picnic beneath the trees or an adventurous day exploring the Lost Coast, your elopement can be completely customized to fit your story.

Your Day, Your Story

One of the biggest advantages of eloping is the freedom to create a day that feels authentic to you. There are no rules. Whether your perfect day includes hiking, fishing, picnicking, beach walks, off-roading, or simply sitting quietly among the Redwoods, your elopement should reflect the things you love most.

As a local photographer, I'm happy to help couples create a custom timeline that combines the beauty of Avenue of the Giants with the activities and locations that make their day uniquely theirs.

Celebrate Your Way

Your elopement doesn't need to follow a traditional wedding timeline.
Some favorite ways couples celebrate include:
Picnic in the Redwoods
Think:
A simple toast on your AirBnB Porch Swing
Local charcuterie
Fresh flowers
Cozy blankets
Champagne or sparkling cider
A relaxed picnic is a beautiful way to slow down and soak in the moment.

Magnificent!!!! It was a blessing to be able to work with Briar!

She set up an entire adventure day for us. The places she took us to take elopement/wedding photos were absolutely beautiful, and she knew how to capture the essence of nature around us. She has a great sense of humor and is so passionate about photography. An overall delightful person to be around. She set up a picnic for us overlooking the Pacific Ocean complete with flowers, succulents, candles, lanterns, Mr. and Mrs. glasses and chocolate cake with our initials on it! It was honestly magical. We love our photos so much and the memory of the day.
