How to Tell Your Family You Are Eloping and How to Include Them

You’ve decided to elope! That’s great, but how do you tell your friends and family the news. Everyone is going to have a different reaction and opinion on the matter. However, this is your choice and you shouldn’t let anyone ruin that. It’s best to tell the people you’re closest to in person if possible. Then you have to decide whether to tell certain people beforehand or after you’ve tied the knot. With some people in your life, it may be easier to inform them afterward., such as people who you aren’t that close with but still should know about this wonderful moment. You can share the news via email, text, or social media and even include photos with it! That way people can see the beautiful experience you and your partner had. With other people, you’re going to want to tell them before. If they seem more hesitant about the idea, you may want to be prepared with reasons to explain your decision to them. However that is totally optional because eloping is your and your partner’s decision, so your  opinion is the the only one that matters. 

You also may want to include certain special people in your elopement. Below are some ways you can do so. 

Give Them a Job to Do

   A great way to involve your family and friends in your elopement is to give them a specific job to do or tasks they can complete to help you out. This makes them feel seen as well as it takes some stuff off your plate. Some jobs you can have them do is make them your officiant, witness, or give them  a role in the ceremony itself. If you don’t want anyone specifically involved at the event, you can have them help you prepare all the stuff you need to be done before such as planning, reservations, or going shopping for anything you need.

Take Them Out to Eat Before

   Get some quality time with the people you care about before making it official with your partner by having a celebration dinner, breakfast, or lunch before the big day. That way you can be surrounded by the love of important people in your life and eat! It’s a win for everyone.

Get Ready Together

    Let them help you get dressed and glammed up before the occasion. This is always a great bonding experience and way to calm any nerves you may have before getting eloped. You can also do some pre-ceremony activities with them. It makes the day a whole lot more fun and filled with love.

Have them Write Letters For You to Read

   Get your family and friends to write letters that you can read at your elopement. Whether they write how happy they are for you, funny stories, or advice moving forward with your relationship, it’s a fun, emotional, and beautiful thing to do on this special day. You also will be able to keep these letters and read them whenever you want to in the future.

Bring Them Along to The Whole Thing

   There are some people that are just going to need to be present for the whole event. Well, bring them along! Have them be a part of your special day. The more the merrier, especially when it’s just the people who you hold the closest to your heart. It can also make any adventurous activities twice as fun with more people participating in them!

 

Call or Facetime 

   Maybe you want to include people who won’t be able to make it, or you just want them to witness the ceremony and not come along for the whole event. Well with the technology we have today, it’s so much easier to do. Just ring their phones and have them see or hear you during, before, or after your big moment.
