“Briar, you’re ugly, and if you say anything, I’m going to punch you in the face.” I remember what year it was. I remember the grade I was in. I remember that the sun was out. I remember the hallway where it took place, and I remember thinking why in the heck is this person picking on me because I don’t even know them? But I let that event control my self-confidence for 35 years. It wasn’t until this last year that I was able to heal from this incident.
Because of this, I never want my daughter, nor any teenager or woman for that matter to feel that way, to feel not beautiful and feel not confident.
I work with high school girls on a daily basis and I see the lack of self-confidence, the constant judgment from others and the harsh criticism of their own selves. And it breaks my heart.
If I could teach any class, I would teach a class about self-love, confidence, self-validation, self-parenting, and all the things I’ve learned on my own healing journey in the last few years. I can’t even imagine what my life would have been like if I would have learned these things when I was a teenager..
Mothers and Fathers…. teach your sons that all women are beautiful. There’s something beautiful in all of us, and we can find it if we look for it.
Teach your daughters to collaborate and not compete. Teach them that putting someone else down, doesn’t bring them up.
My daughter is an amazing athlete and a straight-A student. However, I tell her daily that all of those things don’t define her worth.
She was made in God’s image and likeness and is beautiful just the way she is. Without the accomplishments, just for being the kind person she is.
Want to help your daughter feel beautiful? Book an 8th-grade session. I am offering 3 different options right now. Click the link below to book her session.
